TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY (5/19/2001) - Temp Report - The race starts out with all the Speedlan members running in the top five positions and dicing it up for the lead until lap 9 when the first caution come out. This was caused by the #77 car spinning out by himself. On lap 10 Coyote and Speed came in to pit with the #77, #5 and the #26 car all taking on new rubber and fuel. On the re-start Jay who was in 1st, Bob in 2nd and Stenzo in 3rd place got ready to go back to racing on lap 12, But as the pace car rolled down pit row the three of them pasted the pace car. They would all be black flagged.(as seen above)
Coyote and Speed started from 26th and 27th position and would have to work ther way back to the front. On lap 13 Jay, Stenzo and Bob come in to serve there black flags. As they came back out on the track now with Jay in 28th, Bob in 29th and Stenzo in 30th. They all managed to stay on the lead lap. Jay in his rookie year with SPEEDLAN rules pulls out of the pits still frustrated from his black flag mistake and pulls right up on the track before turn one.
On lap 19 Speed now in 13th slides up the track into the #2 car and spins himself out in turns 3 and 4. Some how he saves it but falls back to 27th place out of the draft. Now Speed, Stenzo, Jay and Bob are hoping for a yellow. On lap 43 as Bob is fighting to stay on the lead lap he bounces into the #99 car coming out of turn 4 and spins into pit row at 146MPH and exits pit row at the same speed he came in at. This got him a big black flag. He would serve it on lap 44 and as he was exiting the pits he got black flagged again for speeding. Now 2 laps down he would come in again for tire and gas not serving his black flag he just got and once again he speeds on pit row getting a other black flag. As he comes around the yellow flag fly's when Coyote the leader now hits the #22 car which hits the #28 car.
Coyote saves his car in a big powerslide in turn 4 putting up a giant wall of smoke. Then along comes Stenzo 2 laps down after pitting and somehow misses the #22 car in the smoke. Under this caution Coyote and Speed pit for tire's and fuel. Stenzo, Jay and Bob stay out and try to get back some of there laps. The Green flag fly's on lap 51. Jay get's back on the lead lap now. Stenzo gets back only one of his laps but is still a lap down. Bob is two laps down and NASCAR is telling him to come in and serve his black flags. So on lap 54 he pulls in to the pits for his black flags and blows the motor leaving his pit box.
Speed working his way up throw the pack takes the lead away from Coyote on lap 62. Then on lap 63 Coyote hits the #43 car which slides up into the #8 car. Coyote manages to save his car and hold on to 3rd position. This would bring out another caution on lap 64. Under this yellow Stenzo would pit for new tires hoping to again more positions or get back on the lead lap. With only 18 cars on the lead lap we go green on lap 67 with Speed in 1st, Coyote in 3rd and Jay in 11th place.
Jay races hard up throw heavy traffic all the way to 4th but hits the #20 car in turn one but saves his car and holds on to 6th on lap 72. On lap 75 the #17 car cuts a tire on the front stretch and hits the outside wall right in front of Jay. No yellow fly's as NASCAR try's to finish the race under green on lap 78. Jay gets back up to 4th but runs out of time and can not catch the leaders. As Speed go's on to win with Coyote in 2nd and Stenzo in 19th one lap down. Even thou he had got back on the lead lap right in front of the leaders he would pull over being the professional he is to let the leaders race out the last two laps.
