BIG CRASH ON LAP 84 HURTS MOST OF THE SPEEDLAN BOYS

Lowe's Motor Speedway - (6/30/2001) - temp report - Bob takes the lead on lap one from his third place starting position and holds on to it until lap 38. When Speed comes and takes over but gives it back to Bob on lap 40 as he tries to save his tires. Then on lap 45 Coyote gets pinched down by the #12 car and spins up into the #1 car. As Coyote slides back down the track in turn one he gets hit by the #43 car. Under this caution everyone pits but Stenzo who stayed out to lead a lap. After Stenzo pitted on the next lap he would rejoin the pack in 24th position behind Coyote in 23rd.

On the re-start the #20 car has a problem getting up to speed and slows up the field. This Allows Stenzo and Coyote move up to 4th and 5th place. But as Stenzo was coming up through the field he had to cut through the glass on the front straight to avoid hitting the #2 car. This must have put mud or water on his tires because when he got to turn one he slid up the track into the outside wall damaging the right front side of his car. Stenzo would go a lap down from this damage he received on lap 65 when Speed passes him. Speed has been leading since lap 49 when Bob had missed a gear on the re-start.

Then on lap 67 Stenzo and the #20 car get together in turn one bring out a caution. Under this yellow everyone pits but Speed. bob gives up 2nd place and rejoins the pack in 19th with Coyote in 22nd place. On lap 78 Stenzo hits the #6 car and they both slide up into the outside wall. This bring out another yellow for everyone to pit again. Speed stays out again not wanting to give up the lead. On the re-start on lap 82 Stenzo bumps the #6 car but gathers it up until lap 84. When Stenzo gets hit by the #6 car. This may have been a pay back from the two times Stenzo hit him. This uncalled move by the #6 car causes a big crash on the front straight involving Bob, Coyote, #24, #9, #33, #88, #31, and Jay's car. (as seen above) This wreck would put Bob and Stenzo out of the race.

Speed gives up the lead to pit under this caution on lap 85 and rejoins the pack in 13th place. Then on lap 98 Speed hits the #28 car and slides up into the outside wall in turn one backwards. This bring out a caution allowing Speed to fix his rear end damage and re-starts in 17th place. Speed would fight his way back up to the front to lead once again on lap 130. But on lap 132 as the #15 was fighting to not go down another lap to the leader would cause Speed to lift off the gas and his car jumped up into the #5 car spinning himself out. Speed would fall back to 6th place with some damage to his car. The #5 car would slide sideways and get hit by the #77 car. This would cause from 7th place back to all jump on the brakes. But Coyote's spotter must have yelled go high because Coyote went from 17th place to 7th in one turn.

Under this yellow Speed and coyote would pit and as they went back to green flag racing on lap 136, Coyote would start in 12th and Speed in 18th. On this re-start the #10 car ends up having a motor problem and would roll slowly to the pits. When the #2 car slowed up to avoid the #10 car, Coyote would bump him and both of them would slide up into the outside wall. But some how Coyote would manger to save his car as he bounces off the wall into Jay's car. This would straight him up at Jays expense wrecking him. This crash would allow Speed to get up to 7th place and Coyote would hold on to 9th place.

On the re-start form this last yellow flag on lap 140 the #10 car still having motor problems and can not get up to speed and slows up the hole field until Nascar black flags him to pit row. This would allow six of the cars to get a jump on the field. Speed would fight his way up to 5th place but with the laps running down he would run out of time. Coyote also caught up in this mess would go down a lap running in 12th place. Jay's car would finish in 18th place a lap down. Bob and Stenzo both getting DNF's finishing in 27th and 29th place. A total of five cars did not finish this race.
