SPEED LIGHTS THE WAY TO SEVENTH WIN!

Lowe's Motor Speedway (6/16/00) -- Speed dominated the field for the fourth time this season en route to his seventh win, only this week it took place under the lights of the palatial Lowe's Motor Speedway. After qualifying 3rd, he wasted no time in disposing of the competition, leading 65 of 140 laps, easily capturing the 5 extra bonus points for leading the most laps. The win marks his 8th top 5 and 9th top 10 this year, as he extended his points lead to 180 points over second place Stenzo.

Bob started from the 17th position and raced hard toward the front early on, but he never quite managed to make it into the lead to earn the valuable 5 bonus points for leading a lap. Later on he would find himself slowly slipping back in the field, where he finished in 12th, the last car on the lead lap. This marks his 6th top 15 finish of the season, which enabled him to pull ahead to a 47 point lead over Coyote, maintaining his 3rd place position.

Stenzo, who has 2 career wins in 4 races at the famous track, not including his sweep of all 3 races in The Winston in 1998, started from the 13th spot. He got together with Bob attempting a daring pass on cold tires in turn one early in the race, sending him high on the track and quickly to the tail end of the field. After using up his tires catching back up to the pack, he pitted and was black flagged for speeding on pit road, which put him a lap down to the leaders. Undaunted by the setback, he managed to race back up to the pack again, where he finished in 13th for the second time in as many weeks. This marks only the 5th time in 12 races that he's finished out of the top 5.

Coyote started the race in 5th position and raced among the leaders most of the day, but found trouble on lap 66 when he tangled with “The Intimidator” and wrecked his Papyrus-sponsored Pontiac Grand Prix. The damage to his car eventually caused him to fall 3 laps down, where he finished in 23rd place, marking the 7th time this season he's finished 21st or worse. This is NOT the way the 1999 SPEEDLAN champion planned to defend his title! Hopefully his recent investment in new equipment will begin to show dividends soon.
