SPEED RACKS UP AT DOVER DOWNS!

Dover Downs International Speedway (6/18/00) -- Speed continued his winning ways this weekend, racking up his eighth win in dominating fashion, while also claiming back-to-back wins for the fourth time this season! After starting from the 16th position, he patiently moved through the field to put pressure on the leader Bob, finally passing him to pace the field for a race-high 68 laps. This marks the fifth time this year he's led the most laps, while also earning his ninth top 5 and tenth top 10 finish, and extending his points lead to 200 points over Stenzo.

Bob started 9th and quickly overtook the leaders to lead the event for a total of 49 laps, marking only the fourth race this year he's led. He definitely had one of the fastest cars on the track, but he still couldn't manage to hold off the determined charge of points leader Speed, and wound up finishing 2nd. This marks both his fifth top 5 and fifth top 10 finish of the year, while he also extended his points advantage over fourth place Coyote to 67 points.

Stenzo showed up at the track this weekend with a brand new untested car, which he qualified 15th in the 25 car field. After a relatively slow start, he finally found the groove and settled in to mount a slow and patient march toward the front. It took him most of the race before he finally made it into the top 5, and he was challenging Bob for 2nd place when the checkered flag flew, with the two racers locked in a nose-to-tail race to the finish line, leaving him to settle for 3rd. This marks both his eighth top 5 and eighth top 10 finish of the season.

Despite starting from the 19th position, the defending race winner of this event, Coyote, had a very fast race car, and wasted little time moving toward the front once the green flag fell. However, after racing among the leaders most of the day, he got tangled up with another car and damaged his ride in the waning laps, which slowed him just enough to allow the leaders to put him a lap down, where he finished in 5th place. This marks only his fourth top 5 and sixth top 10 finish of the year. By comparison, at this point in his championship winning season last year, he had seven top 5s and eleven top 10 finishes.
